3/12/2024 0 Comments Colt army special![]() It looks like that was a marketing tag and not descriptive of their actual use. The frames were 41 mag and Colt made up 32-20s and 38s with them as the model Army Special. I read the models came in 4" and up so this may be part of the original customizing. I thought it was factory but I can see the front sight is over some of the stamping. I gave it a good Kroilling and there is surprisingly little observable wear inside. One of the earliest examples of Bubba'd Up I've seen personally. Then, based on the marks, they took a circular cutter and grinded the overage end of the screw down below the grips. The grips are too small and it looks like the previous owner used a screw from an electrical outlet and tightened it down until the 2 halves were bowed in pretty good. The cheap A grips are plastic and they had a fine layer of caliche soil on the backsides. No pitting but a fine patina inside and out. This looks like it has been sitting in the garden shed since FDR's first term. Proofhouse ( ) shows it to be a 1922 model
